Catherine Chan is a visual artist working mainly in the medium of photography. In her artistic practice she is interested in exploring parallels between the traits of the photographic medium, the nature of memory and the representation of time.
Prior to graduating from Emily Carr University of Art + Design in 2010, Catherine received an Honours Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Toronto in Biogeography and Physics, and a Master of Science degree at the University of Guelph in Soil Science. Her experiences in the natural sciences continue to inform her work.
Catherine’s work often encompasses themes of environmental and social sustainability, the passage of time, memory and impermanence. Her inspiration comes from the landscape, beauty found in unexpected places, and from the openness of people’s hearts.
